How do you Measure Up?

I am the type of person who likes to watch what I eat.  But sometimes I feel cheated.  Using measuring cups can get old... Some mornings when I am pouring my cereal, I don't want to use a measuring cup.  I want to just pour it into the bowl (yet still have the exact amount I should be eating.)  Because we all know while we think we are pouring a cup's worth, it sometimes can really measure up to a whole lot more.  So what am I saying?  Basically, I want my cake and to eat it too...

And I've found just the thing to help me with all of this.  The Measure Up Bowl.  What is it, you ask?  Basically, it's portion control in a bowl.  Measure Up Bowls are porcelain bowls that are clearly marked with measurements, allowing you to pour and go.  So you know how much you are eating without all the guesswork, measuring cups, and feelings of restriction.  Less dishes, less hassle - I love it!

Measure Up Bowls come in 2 sizes - The Classic and The Small.  The Classic is good for larger portions, such as pastas, soup, cereal, etc. and measures from 1/2 cup to 2 cups in 1/2 cup measurements.  The Small Bowl is better suited for those foods that you should eat in smaller amounts, such as ice cream and chips.  It measures from 1/4 cup to 3/4 cup.  If you can't decide between the two bowls, don't worry!  Measure Up has a combo pack, which includes one of each!

I went to the mall today and got things from Godiva, VS, and Aveda (just to name a few...) How much did I spend? Not a penny!

ThriftyGuy and I went out to the mall today, and I've got to tell you - I was in heaven.  Why?  Because everything was FREE!

People always ask how I get away with spending little to no money when we go out shopping, so here was a breakdown of how we did today....

First I scoped the mall's website to get a store directory (I hardly ever go to this mall - it is HUGE and has a ton of stores!)  Next I made a quick list of all the stores that I thought I'd want coupons to and began looking them up.  This entire process took less than 20 minutes.  And here's what I got (and what I could have got...)

• Aveda:  This is a GREAT store to get awesome freebies at!  Always be sure to search for their freebie coupons before heading out - you'll end up trying some great products (and more than likely fall in love!)  Today we each got a sample pack of their Damage Remedy Hair Care - which contained 10ml sample tubes of their Restructive Shampoo, Conditioner, and Treatment.  It smells so fresh, clean, and Aveda-y that I can't wait to try it!

• Godiva:  Sign up on their website to become a member of their Rewards Club and get a FREE piece of chocolate every month!  Once you complete your online registration, simply go to the store where they will give you a key tag to track purchases, get discounts, and most importantly - get you your FREE chocolate! 

• Victoria's Secret:  I recently got a coupon in the mail, good for a FREE pair of VS panties (no purchase necessary!)  I swear, I don't remember the last time I actually bought underwear thanks to this store!  Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for these great coupons...  Also, if you haven't already done so, be sure to sign up for their rewards program, also known as Pink Nation.  It's FREE to join and leads to lots of great discounts and freebies!

• Some more important notes about the mall...
• I wanted to get some new clothes at NY & Co., but the printable coupons weren't as good as the online coupons.  My suggestion?  Try clothes on in store and write down the styles and sizes you want.  Then go home and order online, all while enjoying the bigger discount!

• Other stores did have great coupons, which I printed and took with me (ex:  Aeropostale, Yankee Candle).  However, I didn't find the in-store sales to be that great.  No big deal though - it's always better to have coupons with you, in case of a great sale!  Also, it's fun to hand them to someone in line who doesn't have a coupon - what a great way to pay it forward!

• Some stores had phenomenal deals and great coupons (such as Bath and Body Works), but I already had enough of their items stocked that I didn't even bother going in.  Why?  One thing I have learned is when to say when.  That's very important when you are a savvy shopper.  Rest assure that the deals will keep coming and there is no sense in having a bazillion items on hand, taking up room in your house.  A few will do just fine until your stockpile runs low.

• Rooms to Go:  OK, so this one is a little funny.  After the mall, we hit up the Rooms to Go.  Why?  Because when we bought our furniture a few years back, we bought the whole package where they scotch guard it (I totally recommend it!)  They gave us 1 bottle of fabric cleaner, which I would soon learn is a life saver.  Anything, and I mean ANYTHING spilled on our couch comes out with that stuff!  I swear, it's magic in a bottle!  Anyway, long story short - I had tried to get more about a year ago (and had traveled a decent distance to get there), but alas, they were out.  And I wasn't happy.  I didn't have time to go back until today.  The girl handed me a bottle, but as I told her the story of my frustration and how I was happy they had it in stock again, she handed me 2 more.  That way I didn't have to travel far to get more when I ran out again.  Seriously - how nice was that?!  Lesson learned?  Never be afraid to ask for what you need for.  Being honest (yet friendly) could get you more than you bargained for (in a good way!)

• Sonic:  On the way home, ThriftyGuy stopped at Sonic for a Limeade (AKA:  Route 44).  He is absolutely in love with them, so I didn't mind the "splurge".  Turns out, it wasn't - the receipt printed out one of those telephone survey invitations.  It stated that if you complete it within 14 days, you get a FREE Route 44 on your next visit!  Nice!  ThriftyGuy said he noticed that these tend to print out often - and was wayyyy stoked! : )  Lesson learned?  Always eyeball your receipts - you never know what freebies are waiting for you!

 So all in all, we had a fun (FREE) day!

A change to the way we post deals...

So I listen to what you all have to say, and many of you don't like how the weekly deals tend to crowd the front page (especially every weekend). 

Honestly, I couldn't agree more!  So instead of listing all of the deals on the front page, we will make a post about each store, highlight a few great deals, and link to the entire list for those interested (you will always be able to see the entire list under the "Deals" tab).  That way those who are interested can read on and those who aren't don't have to scroll and scroll through tons of deal listings!

I hope this helps to clean up some of the clutter and confusion!

Scrubz Body Scrub

I love a good body scrub - one that's not too rough but is able to smooth my arms and legs and leave my skin feeling refreshed and soft. I am always on the hunt for a good brand, and recently I had the opportunity to try out Scrubz Body Scrub.

Scrubz Body Scrub is an all-natural scrub that contains essential oils and promises to, "massage your skin, help improve circulation, exfoliate old skin cells & open up pores, leaving skin with a lustrous glow!"
Scrubz offers a variety of products to its customers - not just body scrub!  They have body butter, oils (used for massage, baths, or even worn as a fragrance!), and even lip butters!

So what did I think of the Scrubz?  I had the opportunity to try out the Scrubz Ginger Teaze Body Scrub. It comes in a perfectly sized jar that you can (conveniently) keep in your shower for whenever you need to use it. The Ginger Teaze has a light, refreshing scent of white tea mixed with spicy ginger. I liked that it was able to exfoliate my skin, leaving it soft and smooth, yet wasn't too rough or painful (as some can be).  I did notice that the outside edges of the product tend to dry out after awhile (even with the lid on super tight). However, don't be quick to throw it out: It still worked into the same consistency as the rest of moist Scrubz mixture in the jar and gave the same results - just rub it in with some of the more moist Scrubz and you will be all set! (Scrubz recommends stirring to help with this issue!)
