I, like millions of americans, have trouble sleeping. Falling asleep, staying asleep. Once I am asleep, I have another thing against me: I am an incredibly light sleeper. ThriftyGuy snores, I am awake. The wind blows and the attic creaks, my eyelids snap open. ThriftyDog yips during a particularly exciting dream - yep you guessed it, awake again. I have tried everything from sleeping pills, ear plugs, to a sound machine (that plays everything from waves on the beach to soothing music). Nothing. Sigh... It's very frustrating!
Then, I came across an interesting (and rather fun) website called Vat19. They claim to be the "Purveyors of curiously awesome products" and have "gifts for the person who has everything". (*Note to self: Look on this website for my Grandpa's next birthday!) Vat19 does indeed have all sorts of products, from recycled crayons to bags made from sailcloths. The best part of the website (in my humble opinion) are the product videos. Short yet hysterical, they help highlight the products in a comical manner. (For the most laughs, check out their "USB Cannon" video!)
The product that most caught my eye was the SleepMate 980A White Noise Machine. Good for both sleep and in the office, it generates white noise and promises to mask distracting, annoying sounds. I had heard that many people with trouble sleeping often get some relief with this original sound machine. Forever the skeptic, I was hesistant but hopeful. Vat19 sent one out for my review and I can't thank them enough! This small machine (that fits in the palm of your hand!) has forever changed my life!
I was excited to receive the SleepMate 980A White Noise Machine, as they are building a new house right behind us. Not only do they make noise, but they also rattle our entire house. Ugh. The first night I tried the SleepMate, I smirked at it, thinking there was no way it would help. The next day I awoke refreshed yet confused, as I had slept longer than I ever have before - all without interuption! I couldn't believe that this little machine, which sounds similiar to a box fan, could drown out the sound of nail guns, my husband snoring, the dog yipping, and constructing guys yelling. I tried it again the next night, figuring it couldn't possibly work 2 nights in a row. Wrong again! Seriously, this must be the best invention ever! I have used it in my office while working on ThriftyGrl to drown out outside noise (including lawn mowers, parties, and the garbage truck!) I'll never be able to thank Vat19 enough - and neither will ThriftyGuy (no more elbows in the ribs to get him to quit snoring!)
