Boston Market: Review, deals, coupons!

I have never eaten at Boston Market before. We had them in Ohio, but somehow, it just wasn’t a place that my family or friends frequented. I grew up in a fast-paced life eating whatever was quick, easy, and cheap. Oh, the junk I ate and things I put my body through throughout the years!

Anyway, fast forward my life to now… 700 miles away from my small home town with different, what I would like to consider more “grown up” tastes (and who knew that getting older meant that you couldn’t eat that greasy meal from the burger joint at midnight without some serious GI side effects?!) I try to eat better and lead a healthier lifestyle than that of the past. Don’t get me wrong, I do have the occasional fast food burger, but it is far and few between compared to back in the day!
Recently BzzAgent sent me information on Boston Market, along with coupons to try them out. I was hesitant, as I always had the impression that they were more of a fast food place. I also had heard that they were very expensive, which does not go along with being Thrifty. But, as always, I like to give it the college try for BzzAgent. And they trust me to give them my honest opinions (and when do I not share my opinions?!)

So my husband and I went to Boston Market for lunch one day on a busy afternoon a few weeks back. As we entered the building, I was instantly shocked (yet pleasantly surprised) at not only how clean and organized it was, but also how well the flow went. It was perfect for crowd control; there weren’t people bunched up in any one area, and everyone flowed nicely through the entrance into the line to order, up to the check out to pay, on to get drinks and utensils, and then to either get a seat or exit through the opposing door. Brilliant. There were a ton of menu options, which were a bit pricey ($6 and up for a plate). Had I not had a coupon, I would have been a bit ticked to pay that much for a plate of food. I ordered the plate that gives you a ½ a chicken with two sides (choosing macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy) and along with it came a piece of corn bread. I also got a Coke Zero to go with it. My husband ordered a Boston Turkey Carver sandwich and water (he is never adventurous when it comes to his beverage selections, lol).

First things first. When I ordered my “1/2 chicken”, I never actually thought that they would actually give you HALF OF A CHICKEN. It was HUGE! And my big beef with restaurant chicken is that it is normally tough and dry. Not this chicken! It was like Mama’s Sunday chicken; moist, tender, and falling off the bone! I was also weary of the macaroni and cheese; so many restaurants boast a good mac ‘n cheese, but fall short when it comes down to it. Not this one! It was so thick and creamy; very filling and delicious! The mashed potatoes were a bit lumpy, but nonetheless good, and the brown gravy was beefy and just the way I like it. It came down to my cornbread, which is usually a hit or miss item. Again, they hit the nail on the head. It was moist with a bit of sweetness, and by the time I had eaten it I thought, “Wow. I didn’t even notice that I forgot to get butter with it.” To address the one issue that I had with the entire meal: the price… I was thinking about it as I ate… And my husband ate... And we both couldn’t (together) finish my one meal?!? I guess $7 isn’t so bad after all when it completely STUFFS two people! As for his sub? Very good. But I will say that we went back about 2 weeks later (yes, I am now an admitted Boston Market fan!) and got the Brisket Dip Carver. OMG. It was so delicious I couldn’t speak as I inhaled it. It was Mama’s home cookin’ on a bun served up in a hot minute. I am in love.

Thank you BzzAgent for opening my eyes to Boston Market, a place where I can get a nice home cooked meal that will more than surely stuff me and leave me feeling satisfied and wanting more : )
